Every once in a while a bargain really does appear. I picked up three boxcars for use on the larger, non-trolley layout on eBay last week. I have been unsure what to do with that layout, but now I am really thinking that I will turn it into a typical Carolina small town. This would be the one I picked up for next-to-nothing at the Toy Train Collector’s convention. I may even place it in the upstate of South Carolina as a mill village. I am going quite a bit more modern with this one than with the trolleys – well at least more modern for me. I want this larger layout’s place in time to be the late ’60s. This would be the time when I was really watching trains, Southern still had a lot going for it, and Amtrak and other modern creations didn’t exist yet.
I also didn’t realize until just now that I had posted information on that layout to my personal blog, but not on here with the other model train info! Duh. Well, you can check out that link above for an interesting story regarding some of the buildings on the layout, and you can see some additional picture of it in my Picasa gallery.
Of course between these cars and the ones I already have, I think I have about every different coupler type there is for N scale. So, that means deciding on one and changing the rest over. Looks like Micro-Trains will be the winner here. The Micro-Trains couplers look to be the best blend of authentic looks, reliable behavior, and ease of use.
